EBRD forecasts 6.3% economic growth in Turkmenistan
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has issued a regional overview of the economies of the countries where it operates.
A May document from the EBRD predicts economic growth in Turkmenistan in 2019 at the level of 6.3%. In comparison with the November forecast, this estimate increased by 0.7 percentage points.
This is the highest rate among the countries of Central Asia, if not in the world. In general, the EBRD predicts a slowdown in the Central Asian region: from 4.8% in 2018 to 4.4% in 2019 and 4.2% in 2020 due to a slowdown in the growth of mineral production.
Note that the EBRD also worsened the GDP growth forecast for the entire region of Eastern Europe, as well as North Africa and the post-Soviet countries, from 2.6% to 2.3% in 2019.
So, the EBRD experts are unanimous with the conclusion of the IMF mission, in the April press release of which also predicted GDP growth in Turkmenistan in 2019 at the level of 6.3%.
At a recent meeting of the Turkmen government following the results of 4 months of the year, it was announced that the GDP growth rate for January-April was 6.2%.
