Elena Panova invites Turkmenistan to present its achievements at the UN Summit on Climate Change in New York

“The UN considers such large-scale events as opportunity to address the national and world partners and once again remind that development can be sustainable only by putting into consideration the environment issues,” Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, said in her speech to the participants of the X Gas Congress of Turkmenistan.

The representative of the United Nations presented to the participants of the Avaza Forum the upcoming summit on climate change. As is known, UN Secretary-General António Guterres put forward the initiative to hold the Summit on climate change. As he highlighted, “the climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and its solution – a turning point in history.”

According to Panova, Turkmenistan has something to present both in the field of ecology and in the field of sustainable development.

– The promotion of Turkmen energy supplies has a positive effect on the whole region, especially in South Asia. TAPI is the best example of how Turkmenistan uses its hydrocarbon reserves for the sake of peace and sustainable development of neighboring regions.

In her speech, Panova also touched upon issues of interstate cooperation and the social aspect of the energy distribution.

“Pipelines are a collective action. They unite countries and bring stability to the regions through territories of which they pass, otherwise they cannot exist. It has a positive effect on entire nations, whose life is getting better thanks to oil, gas and electricity.”
