EU is considering expanding the Southern Gas Corridor
In the future, if necessary, other sources of gas can be connected to the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas told Trend.
According to the information, the ambassador noted that there is interest on the part of Turkmenistan in joining the project.
He said that at the last ministerial meetings at the meeting of the Consultative Council of the SGC, there were discussions about the potential demand and opportunities for expanding the project, as well as additional sources of gas.
“The countries of the Western Balkans are also interested in participating in expanding the infrastructure of SGC. I think that some projects have already been developed in this direction. SGC is not the end, but the beginning, ”Jankauskas quotes Trend.
Supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Europe are expected in early 2020 in the amount of 10 billion cubic meters. In addition, six billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to the western regions of Turkey. Deliveries to Turkey began in the summer of 2018, supplements the agency.
